Self-improvement or Mindfulness?
Self-improvement is implied by Introspection. As a result, it is self-centeredness.
Identification
and condemnation occur during contemplation.
On
the other hand, mindfulness doesn’t include bettering oneself; rather, it
involves of letting go of the self, of the “I” with all its ideas, memories and
pursuits.
Since
awareness does not involve identification or criticism, there can be no
self-improvement.
It
is possible to see without passing judgment, denying it or accepting it.
That
mindfulness starts with the external world, being aware, being in contact with
others, and being in nature.
Being
sensitive with nature, objects and thoughts is a holistic process that is
made of no discrete steps.
In
essence, it is a continuous process of observation of everything, including our
thoughts, feelings, ideas and action as they arise within ourselves.
